Course Expectations

 

 

Goals of the Class
 
Spanish I Emphasis will be placed on comprehension, speaking, reading and writing in the present, future, and past tenses.  By the end of the semester, I anticipate that your child will be able to read, understand, and write simple sentences.  He/She should also be able to understand and respond to simple sentences spoken by a native speaker of Spanish.  In addition, cultural diversity and global impact will be part of the curriculum throughout the semester.
 
Spanish IISince this is a continuation of Spanish I, emphasis will be placed on comprehension, speaking, reading and writing in different tenses and with correct grammar.  By the end of the semester, I anticipate that your child will be able to read, understand, and write more complex sentences as well as be able to communicate more fluently in Spanish.  In addition, cultural diversity and global impact will be part of the curriculum throughout the semester.
 
 
 
Grading Policy
 
            Spanish I:
               
                

·        Your child will receive a vocabulary assignment for each chapter and poems to memorize and recite – these will count approximately 25% of their grade.

·        Tests will be given at the end of each chapter.  Presentations will also be assigned at different times throughout the semester.  These count 50% of their grade.

·        Your child will be graded on classwork that will count 25% of their grade. 

During the second nine weeks, your child will be expected to communicate in Spanish during class and this will also be graded. 

 
 
            Spanish II:
            

·        Your child will receive a vocabulary assignment for each chapter – these will count approximately 20% of their grade.

·        Tests will be given at the end of each chapter.  Presentations will also be assigned throughout the semester.  These combine and make up 60% of their grade.

·        Your child will be graded daily for classwork and communicating in Spanish.  This will count approximately 20% of their grade.
