Course Description

The courses offered through the Exceptional Children Life Skills class are content areas which are linked to the general curriculum, the Extended Content Standards. The extended content standards also address other educational needs to prepare them for real-life areas such as employment, independent living and recreation/leisure. These students can earn a Graduation Certificate. They must successfully complete 21-course credits in high school and pass all requirements of their Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Attendance

  • Students having more than six (6) unexcused absences for this class period will be in immediate jeopardy of not receiving credit for the course.

  • Students must be present a minimum of one hour to be counted present for the class period.

  • Students have five (5) student days to turn in makeup work immediately upon their return to school.

Fridays

Because failure is not an option, the teacher may test your student several times on the same material in order to ensure that they have a clear understanding of the subject. The method will be determined by the teacher and will be made on individualized bases.

The student may also be assigned the same homework assignment several times during the course of the week. This too ensures that your student has a clear understand and that he/she can master the content/ material.

Photos will be taken of the students periodically throughout the school year to document activities and provide artifacts for the teacher’s development and evaluations. Photos may appear in the school’s yearbook, throughout the school, and on the class website. Classroom Rules:

In addition to Wayne County Public Schools and Southern Wayne policy, the following classroom rules apply:

“Be respectful of others and yourself at all times.”

Attendance

If the student is absent for any reason, please provide a written note to the teacher upon the return of the student.

Please share with the teacher any changes that have occurred with the student which may affect the student’s day. (Example: did not sleep well, off his/her regular schedule, a death in the family, he/she had a seizure last night or there has been an adjustment or change in his/her medication).

We have an open door policy, but before coming to the classroom please sign in at the main office.
