Course Ref: AS410 “SURVIVAL”/LE 100, LE200, LE300, Drill and Ceremony

Topic:  Introduction to AFJROTC

Lesson Title: What is AFJROTC, what is taught in the course, and what are the requirements

Level: 1st through 4th year cadets

Lesson Objectives:

The first week of class is used to orient both new and returning cadets on the requirements of the program, handout forms for parental signature, and begin uniform issue.  Additionally, the first week of class is to orient the cadets with their new class leaders.

Summary of Tasks:

Prepare returning cadets for Pass in Review.  Orient new cadets on the program requirements and standards.  Hand out forms for cadets to bring home to inform their parents/guardians of the program requirements.  Teach new cadets the basic commands of “attention”, “parade rest”, etc.. to prepare them for the Pass in Review

Materials/Equipment:

Handouts; uniforms for returning cadets; basic PT shirts for new cadets

 

Week 2:  5 Feb – 9 Feb 2018

Topic:  Fire Craft

Lesson Title: 

Survival 3-1, Firecraft

Leadership Education (LE) 100, Chapt 1, Lesson 3; LE 200, Chapt 1, Lesson 3; LE 300/400, Chapt 3, Les 1

Uniform Inspection, Physical Training

Level: 1st through 4th year cadets

Lesson Objectives:    Teach Cadets the art of fire craft to include making and maintaining a fire for warmth, cooking, and signaling (for protection);  Friday is PT day.

Summary of Tasks: Cadets will be introduced to fire making tools for a survival situation.  Tools include fire flints, fire bows, magnesium strikers, steel wool and battery reactions.  Cadets who require Uniform Items will be issued those items this week.  Cadets will update their ribbons on Wednesday after the inspection.

Materials/Equipment:  Uniform items, and manual of Drill and Ceremony


Week 3:  29 Jan – 2 Feb 2018

Lesson Objectives:    Teach Cadets the necessity to “plan to survive”, including proper equipment selection, weapons making (for protection);  Friday is PT day.  Drill 20 Commands, Drill 32 Commands, Drill Workbook, Chap 1, 4, 5,

 

Summary of Tasks: Cadets will be introduced to basic tools and weapons in a survival situation.  Tools include stone implements, hatchet/axe, clubs and knives.  Cadets who require Uniform Items will be issued those items this week.  Cadets will update their ribbons on Wednesday after the inspection.
